Since qualifying as a barrister in 1992 Brian has developed extensive experience defending people facing the most serious alleged criminal offences. Brian joined BNG in 2009 and has achieved a number of notable jury acquittals including R -v- F. (Southend Crown Court – allegations of blackmail to enforce a money-lending debt), R –v- L. (Snaresbrook Crown Court – section 18 GBH with intent), and R –v- C. (Snaresbrook Crown Court – multiple rape allegations).

R -v- Malone & Others (Central Criminal Court) Leading Counsel for the Defence in a 10 week murder trial at the Old Bailey of a woman charged with assisting the offender.
R -v- Sheehan & Another (Central Criminal Court) Defence Counsel in a double murder trial. (Led by Q.C.)
R -v- Elliott (Kingston Crown Court) Leading Counsel for the Defence of a children’s entertainer charged with sexually assaulting numerous children at his shows. The Defence necessitated the delicate but essential cross-examination of 10 and 11 year olds as to the veracity of their allegations whilst building up the back-ground picture of the collusion of adults against the Defendant who was acquitted on all counts.
R -v- Lamptey (Kingston Crown Court) Counsel for the Defence of a young soldier on a charge of sexually assaulting a young girl. The Defence included detailed analysis of the complainant’s mobile telephone records and cross-examination of the complainant and her friends to show clear collusion and motive for the false allegation.
R -v- Buck & Another (Mold Crown Court) Counsel for the Defence of the mother in a “baby-shaking” case. Extensive Cross examination of expert witnesses as to injuries suffered to the brain of the dead baby.
R -v- G. (Middx Guildhall Crown Court) Counsel for the Defence of a father on numerous counts of historic rape and incest of his daughter. An early legal battle as to the admissibility of “bad-character” evidence, the Defendant having previous convictions for rape and incest of his other daughter.
R -v- Delucca (Bradford Crown Court) represented co-defendant in attempted murder trial, 2 police officers shot in “gangland attack”. (Led by Q.C.)
R -v- O’Leary (Harrow Crown Court) represented key member of a gang involved in one of the country’s highest ever value domestic burglaries at a single residence (excess of £2 million in jewelry and cash taken from house in Hampstead).
